Making a Difference Through Art!

Cancer affects everyone. It doesn’t discriminate. It crosses all racial, gender, age, religious, economic and social boundaries. It even affects all species here on Earth. It is one of the top two causes of death in the United States today; second only to Heart Disease. Each year, approximately 1.5 million people will be diagnosed with some form of cancer. Another half a million people will die each year from this devastating disease. That is 1,500 people a day.

The numbers are astounding and disturbing. However, they only tell half of the story. This is because cancer doesn’t just affect the patient. It affects all the people who love and care for that person. Cancer patients include our friends, moms, dads,  husbands, wives, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, pets and yes, even our children. Upon diagnosis, shock, fear, anger & disbelief  set in,  lives are turned upside down and interrupted, hearts break and tears flow. Yes, as one cancer patient so eloquently put it... “Cancer Sucks!” Then, miraculously, tears subside, courage emerges,  determination arises, hearts open wide and people band together, support one another and begin to fight!

As a matter of fact, it is because of the efforts of ordinary individuals such as yourselves, that researchers are making great strides in helping to find a cure for this disease and advancing treatment. Organizations such as the American Cancer Society play a vital role in providing funding for and helping to organize events that will go to benefit cancer research.

This is why the members of ActingworksNYC think it is important to make a difference in the world and feel that they can accomplish this while making ART.  So grab some friends, go out to dinner and then head over to the theater and let us entertain you. Enjoy a night out while supporting a Tremendous Organization and a worthwhile cause.

At the end of the day, when  the curtain closes, the applause subsides, the theater empties and the lights go down we are all the same. The Real Stars walk silently among us, seemingly unnoticed, bravely battling a devastating disease,  while trying to continue to live productive lives...Please join us in supporting this cause.
